Stuff to say
It occurred to me today that sometimes I have things to say that I feel certain must be said, but that aren't necessarily important to anyone around me. This seems like a good spot.
Here's a for instance: While searching for preparation guides for the GRE, I noticed that the illustrations on the front covers of The Princeton Review guides are weirdly stereotypical. The one on the front of the literature guide is a smiling caucasian girl. The one on the front of the chemistry guide is an asian girl focusing intently. The math guide has a nerdy white boy with skin blemishes.
Are people more likely to buy the chemistry guide because everyone knows that asian students excel in the sciences? This kind of thing is subtle but pervasive.
